Sponsors: The square was paid for by the family.
Barn Owner: Mrs. James (Mary) Messer., wife of James (dec.)
Painted
by: The painters were: Mary Messer, Jennifer and Bill
Jones, Keith and Lorene Messer, Barbara
Davis, Patty Brown, and Jeri Barber with some help from the cat,
Gremlin Messer. All of these attended the installation along with Tony
Burnett,
RC&D Coordinator.
Hung: Three Grayson RECC employees, David Holbrook, Mike Reynolds and Stanley Jenkins, put it on the barn on Friday, Aug. 1, 2008.
Notes:
The farm was originally owned by Will and Luada Messer, parents of James,
grandparents of Jennifer
Jones and Keith Messer. Messers have lived on this farm since the
early part of the 20^th Century, approx. 95 years. The barn was built
after WWII.
This pattern was chosen because of our Cherokee heritage. The great
great-grandmother Melton of Jennifer, Keith and Barbara was a full-blooded
Cherokee.
